Acupuncture Treatment in Libertyville, IL

What is acupuncture

Acupuncture is a technique that involves inserting very thin needles into specific points along different meridians across the body. Acupuncture originated in China a few hundred years before the Common Era. Many cultures have adopted acupuncture into their treatment practices.

How does it work?

Traditional Chinese medicine describes acupuncture as the practice of balancing the flow of energy or qi (pronounced chi) that is thought to travel along these meridians. The body’s meridians and pathways are accessed by 350 acupuncture points. Acupuncture triggers the body’s ability to heal itself by promoting the flow of blood and qi throughout the body.

What conditions does it treat?

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in cultures across the world to treat a wide variety of conditions including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • Improved immune function
  • Infertility
  • Neck, back and joint pain
  • Relief from digestive conditions
  • Smoking cessation
  • Stress
  • Weight loss

What to anticipate during a treatment session:

The doctor will take a health history and will complete a medical exam. Acupuncture points will be selected based on your treatment needs. The doctor will clean the area with an alcohol swab and thin acupuncture needles will be inserted. Most patients do not experience any discomfort from the needles. The acupuncture needles will remain in their respective points for 15 – 20 minutes. Once your session is finished, the doctor will remove and dispose of the needles.
